About the role

Are you an experienced medical communications leader looking for an opportunity to shape scientific strategy, develop talented colleagues and take on diverse leadership responsibilities?

Oxford PharmaGenesis is looking for a Communications Director to cover a period of leave. In this role, you will provide leadership and direction across multiple teams, supporting the delivery of high-quality scientific communications while helping colleagues, clients and accounts to thrive.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with a strong scientific background who enjoys developing people, influencing strategy and partnering with clients and colleagues across a diverse portfolio of medical communications programmes. Working closely with managers from medical writing and account management disciplines, you will help strengthen client relationships, support business growth and drive scientific excellence.

A major focus of this role will be coaching and mentoring senior medical writers, providing scientific leadership and guidance to support their development and long-term success. You will also review and shape account strategies, ensuring programmes remain scientifically robust, strategically and commercially aligned, and focused on delivering client value.

In addition, you will oversee forecasting and financial performance, as well as writer resourcing and recruitment, helping to balance workloads, support career development and ensure the efficient delivery of projects.

We are looking for an experienced Communications Director who has:

  • a science degree (advanced degree preferred)
  • extensive experience in medical communications
  • significant experience leading, managing and developing teams
  • demonstrable experience coaching and mentoring colleagues in scientific communications roles
  • strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to shape scientific communication programmes
  • experience working closely with pharmaceutical or biotechnology clients
  • excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills
  • the ability to balance multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
